What you need to know
Project Overview
Persimmon Homes, as one of the UK’s top housebuilders, is always looking for new innovations within the building sector. Particularly innovations that help them to create more sustainable communities.
The team in Cardiff were delighted to be the first site ever to install OSMADrain with RootSeal Technology. Allowing them to protect the homes of their future inhabitants from root ingress.
The Challenges
As one of the top housebuilders in the UK, Persimmon Homes strives to build sustainable cities and communities to house future generations. Constantly striving to find modern methods of construction, RootSeal Technology appealed as the new innovation to OSMADrain.
As a developer creating harmonious green spaces is important, however when they hand over the keys to the new homeowners, they have no impact on the tree planting decisions that are made. Pipes without protection from roots can become damaged over time as roots search for water and nutrients. The changing climate in the UK, with longer and more extreme periods of drought, is likely to make this a more common issue on housing developments.
The Solution
By utilising RootSeal Technology in their drainage systems they are protecting their homeowners from potential future root ingress as the seal works to actively repel roots from the system.
Providing RootSeal Technology gave the client a cost-effective method to prevent root ingress and future-proofed potential costs as without it, root ingress can cause a large amount of damage with a large expense to fix the problem.
Wavin OsmaDrain with RootSeal Technology
Wavin has developed a new technology for Wavin OsmaDrain to provide added protection from trees and root ingress.
Called RootSeal Technology, it uses a natural mineral additive to harmlessly repel tree roots reducing potential damage, upheaval and considerable costs - both financial and environmental. This solves a number of challenges for architects, specifiers, developers and planners.
