Project overview
The customer designed a beautiful barn conversion to include a 2-story living area with a swimming pool and a joining annex for hire.
To meet their plumbing and heating needs, Wavin provided a range of products to meet the necessary requirements of the customer:
- Wavin Comfia underfloor heating
- Wavin Tigris K5/M5 Press-fit plumbing
- AS+ Acoustic soil
The challenges
As the barn shares the building with the annex, the customers didn’t want to intrude on the holidaymakers in the annex with excess noise from the soil system. Noise pollution is more harmful than expected and affects both health and behaviour.
Ease of installation was another key priority as the customer had hired their own plumber who was not 100% familiar with Wavin products.
The customer had a keen eye for design and wanted a clean aesthetic look and feel to the barn conversion.
This meant that Wavin Comfia UFH was installed throughout the property. Radiator systems can impose on a clean aesthetic and take up valued space within a property.
The solution
Wavin AS+ is the perfect solution to noisy pipes with sound-insulating Soil & Waste piping system, suitable for drainage of hot and cold waste water.
Wavin AS+ is used where there is a high requirement for silent operations and with the annex being attached to the home, disruption from both owners and holiday makers needed to be minimized.
Unique to Wavin, the SoundCheck Tool simulates the system acoustics of your installation and calculates noise levels based on individual parameters. In four clear steps, you get the answers you need to see if your design meets regulations.
The use of Wavin Tigris K5/M5 solved many of the customers problems. The property was built over an extended period in which the air-pressure testing was advantageous for.
The Tigris K5/M5 provides easy leak detection with an acoustic leak alert, the only type on the market. Air-pressure testing removes the need for any water, reducing the risk of legionella from pipes where water hasn’t dried.
Air-pressure testing was advantageous to this project as the hot and cold feeds did not have to be filled with water and potentially left for a long time with water still in the pipes. This reduced the risk of water becoming stagnant or freezing during cold spells.

Wavin Tigris K5/M5
Wavin Tigris K5/ M5 builds on the success and reliability delivered by its predecessor, the Tigris K1/ M1. Wavin Tigris K5/ M5 is the very first of its kind to feature the innovative Acoustic Leak Alert function. Any un-pressed fitting will make itself known by producing a loud whistle.
But that’s not all. The fittings also offer an improved flow and can now be pressed with multiple pressing profiles.
Wavin Comfia Underfloor Heating System Types
System Plate
System plate packs contain a castellated plate with pipe spacing pre-moulded into the crate for an easier installation.
Tackers System
Tacker packs are used to directly staple the pipe to insulation and are a lower cost option than system plate.
Low Build Panel
A low build x flooring solution, 18mm in depth, which takes 12mm pipe. Channels are pre-grooved with the correct spacing to allow the laying of an underfloor system on top of an existing floor.
