The Challenges
Welsh Water looks to safeguard the environment and provide a more sustainable future for the communities in which Lingfield Gardens will be a part of. The residential development therefore needed to create a design for an attenuation tank which adhered to Welsh Water’s requirements. Additionally, the tank needed to withstand lateral loadings, accommodate the required amount of storage volume, and fit into the small area mapped out.Not only did Obsidian Homes require the design of a tank, but they also wanted the full package of supply and installation. Due to the tank having to meet specific requirements, the developers wanted to mitigate the risk of installation and have another party complete the task.
A careful consideration for logistics was essential due to the lack of space on site. The Wavin AquaCell units could not be delivered all at once or stored on site for installation to happen another day.
The Solution
Over a 3-month period Wavin Technical Design worked with Obsidian Homes engineer, CB3 Consult, to develop a suitable design. To meet Welsh Water’s requirement, structural and hydraulic calculations were made alongside comprehensive design drawings. To keep the client’s up to date with the process and informing them about the product, Team’s meetings and on-site meetings were held prior to the installation.Obsidian Homes wanted the full package of design, supply, and installation in which Wavin StormForce provides the single source solution. Wavin StormForce takes away the risk and hassle of the client and supplies a high-quality end-to-end solution. Obsidian Homes also wanted Wavin to provide other Below Ground products, including Twinwall, a cost-effective way of controlling infiltration, reducing the volume of water required to be drained at the endpoint. The materials used are developed by Wavin’s in-house technology to maximise the use of recycled material.
The delivery of the AquaCell units was done just-in-time as they built each layer of the tank. This was done in two visits to the site, the first visit consisted of installing four layers and the second visit installed the upper 3 layers.
Wavin effectively collaborated with Obsidian and CB3 Consult from the onset and built a good relationship with both which meant that the supply and installation of the tank was a success.
