The construction industry is changing. New technologies like Building Intelligence Modelling (BIM), industrial fabrication and artificial intelligence are creating new opportunities across architecture, engineering, design, construction and the built environment. Meanwhile, skills availability, sustainability, climate change and energy efficiency create multiple challenges.

TU Dublin

Technical University Dublin (TU Dublin), long recognised as a leading source of skills and expertise in the industry,  is creating the Design + Construct Centre along with construction industry partners, including Wavin Ireland, as a centre of excellence and innovation to address these current challenges and to look ahead to the future.  Wavin Ireland is proud to support the Centre and celebrates the ambition the project represents.

The Design + Construct Centre located at TU Dublin Broombridge will consist of 5,490 square metres of high-tech, flexible and adaptable workshop and studio space and will drive collaborative multidisciplinary learning for students across all levels from apprenticeship to doctoral research.  It will also play a key role in delivering on the government’s Project Ireland 2040 plan and aligning with the objectives of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as well as responding to the Climate Action Plan 2021 and Housing for All.

Wavin Ireland’s purpose is to build healthy, sustainable environments and it is through supporting projects like this that we can actively bring our purpose to life. Not only does this project support the local community in which it is based, and those in the construction sector – both new entrants and established companies – but it will lead the way in creating a better-built environment for all our citizens.

Michael O’Donohoe, Country Director at Wavin Ireland said, “This project is something we can all be proud of. The industry is moving fast and both TU Dublin and the construction partners recognise the need for a centre of excellence that harnesses and propagates the skills and talent we need to maintain the standards of excellence required and to meet the challenges the industry faces head-on. We’re delighted to be able to play our part in this critical project”.
