Wavin has long been a committed member of Guaranteed Irish (GI), so it was a great pleasure for Michael O'Donohoe, Commercial Director - UK & Ireland, to have been invited by GI to join a presentation to members of the Oireachats this month as part of the GI 50th anniversary celebrations. Michael, as part of the delegation, underlined the commitment of GIs 2,300+ business members to supporting local jobs, communities, and developing sustainable local economies all across Ireland
Michael took the opportunity to speak about Wavin Ireland's commitment to supporting the local community. For example, the Wavin Lake set in a wildlife sanctuary of approximately 26 acres was essentially gifted to the community by Wavin in 1993. Wavin entered into a 99 year lease with Gormanstown Anglers, who have transformed the lake into what is now a rich community resource full of beautiful wildlife and fauna.
Support for community activity has continued since the 1960s. In 2022, Wavin further extended this support programme through a collaboration with the Irish Institute of Music and Song (IIMS) development in Balbriggan. Sustainability is at the heart of this development and Wavin AaquaCell units were supplied to facilitate stormwater management within the site. A key element of this is a sustainable drainage system to minimise the impact of excess rainwater into the area's local drainage network.
These projects are in addition to supporting numerous local charities, organisations, and clubs in and around Balbriggan which the company is delighted to do.
Wavin is involved in a number of Guaranteed Irish initiatives. In 2022 we partnered with them to establish the Guaranteed Irish Forest, an initiative that aims to encourage climate action engagement and increase biodiversity. This will see 14 hectares of native Irish forest planted in the west of Ireland for the enjoyment of generations to come.
We are a member of Guaranteed Irish House, which is Ireland's first national listing of construction sector businesses based in Ireland, offering architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, and interior designers a listing of locally produced raw building materials and homes furnishings for both private and commercial builds. The listing includes all the elements of the supply chain, that can be sourced locally and help reduce the carbon footprint while supporting jobs and businesses here in Ireland. Visit the Guaranteed Irish House website here to find out more.
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for a Guaranteed Irish Business Award in the Construction Manufacture and Supply Category and await the winner's announcement next month. Visit our awards page here for more information on our award winning Tigris K5/M5.
