Con este enfoque, podemos construir un futuro en el que los edificios coexistan en armonía con su entorno.   El agua es un elemento fundamental para el mantenimiento de la vida, esencial para la conservación de los ecosistemas de la Tierra y de sus innumerables especies. Con ello, desempeña un papel indispensable en el mantenimiento de los procesos biológicos a todos los niveles, necesarios para una biodiversidad sostenida en nuestro planeta.   Se prevé que el consumo de agua aumente constantemente en las próximas décadas, según la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO). Nuestra interminable dependencia de este precioso recurso exige una conciencia aguda de su disponibilidad finita y unos hábitos de uso responsable en nuestra población mundial en rápida expansión.   Debemos asumir nuestra responsabilidad y ser más eficientes con nuestro consumo de agua si queremos alcanzar los [Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas ](https://wavin.com/es-gt/amanco-wavin-guatemala/sostenibilidad)para 2030. José Ávila, director técnico de Guatemala GBC, nos anima a todos a empezar a actuar en casa por un futuro mejor: "Hay muchas formas en las que cada uno de nosotros puede ayudar a conservar este recurso esencial".   El Consejo de Construcción Sostenible de Guatemala (GGBC, sigla en inglés)  reconoce la importancia primordial de la conservación del agua y se compromete a inculcar este valor en la industria de la construcción de Guatemala. Fortaleciendo el compromiso de toda la sociedad a nivel individual, podemos garantizar una gestión adecuada de nuestro recurso vital para las generaciones futuras.   Las prácticas de construcción deben tener en cuenta su impacto medioambiental, especialmente en lo que se refiere al uso del agua. Este concepto de "equilibrio hídrico" fomenta la integración y optimización del consumo, la producción y la gestión de las aguas residuales para crear un ciclo sostenible en las obras de construcción que conserve -o incluso restaure- los cursos de agua natura.
