Watercove, an exclusive Seafront Living By The Park resort-styled project in Singapore, a new era begin with the first Wavin Tigris innovative plumbing system.

Watercove promoting a new seafront living experience by Sembawang park in the North-Eastern of Singapore, an 80-unit of 3 levels strata landed housing development project providing all the tranquility and serenity the residents need away from the city. The idea of its design were inspired by Sembawang’s colonial black-and-white bungalows during British colony time.

In the recent year after experiencing a significant labor shortage in the building construction industry following the government initiatives and plan to raise the construction productivity level. One of the greater area in achieving the productivity gain is thru technology adaptation against the conventional system, take the example of water pipes for the plumbing system in the house, a typical system to that is copper most of time, higher train and skill workers are required very often time to perform the welding joint, less productivity, dealing with high temperature hot work and pose an occupational hazard to some extent.

Through Wavin Tigris exclusive “press fit” method, they crimp together the pipes to be jointed, there’s no hot work involve or permit prior to start work, and more environmental friendly. The press fit system of what Wavin is offering is that simple, less joint, thanks for the pipe are delivered in coil and more secure toward any potential leakage. It has led to tremendous productivity gain contributing an entire plumbing works in the construction.

The Regional Headquarters for the Western Pacific, located in Manila, Philippines, represents World Health Organization in the Asia Pacific. The office acts as the health conscience of the Asia Pacific Region now with QuickStream Siphonic Roof Drainage System

The Regional Headquarters for the Western Pacific, located in Manila, Philippines, represents World Health Organization in the Asia Pacific. The office acts as the health conscience of the Asia Pacific Region.

In 2009, the original office building was extensively damaged by the historic strong typhoon Ketsana (known as “Ondoy” in the Philippines).   A plan was made to rehabilitate, renovate and improve the building and its facilities which involved the installation of a new roof drainage system that can withstand intense rainfall of over 400mm in 24 hours (Typhoon Ketsana, at its peak, was documented to have released 455mm of rainfall in 24 hours!).

Wavin QuickStream Siphonic System was the only choice by the lead designer and consultant, Meinhardt Philippines, Inc. for the new roof drainage requirements for this renovation project which was done in 2016.  The design had a roof area of 2,400 square meters, and mandated a flow rate of 168 liters per second capacity.   The roof drainage was designed with the help of the Wavin QuickStream Siphonic Software to ensure optimum performance for the whole system.

Taking the lead in this project is Wavin’s Philippine partner for QS Siphonic System:  Unitec Pipe Manufacturing Corporation.

Is the end of the radiator near?

Posted by goldenrabbit on Jan 17, 2017 8:30:00 AM
      • Tweet

Homes, offices, healthcare facilities... in the past most new building were jam-packed with radiators. For decades it was the best heating available. But that has changed! Smart underfloor heating systems are putting the radiator on the backburner… fast.

Underfloor heating is overhauling the more traditional radiator systems.
Ludo Martens , product manager at Wavin Netherlands

      Double win

Ludo talks about a double win: not only the government, but also our wallets are forcing us to pay attention to our energy consumption. And the radiator scores poorly. Although manufacturers are working hard to make the radiator better, it remains an ineffective heating system – and an energy drain. First, the water must be heated to 60 to 70 degrees C. And if you also want the other side of the room to get pleasantly warm, you need to invest in a fancy thermostat and those can be quite expensive. With underfloor heating, the entire floor is used as a heat source – distributing the heat much more evenly. Water temperatures of only 30 to 40 degrees are needed. Users can even lower their thermostat by about 2 degrees and to top that all off – the energy bill is on average 20% lower. That’s a win-win.

      Pleasant and comfy

As we just mentioned, by using the entire floor area, heat is spread more evenly with underfloor heating. Not only will your feet notice the difference, but underfloor heating will provide comfortable, pleasant warmth throughout the whole room. This is totally different from radiator heating – where it's nice and warm near the radiators, but you get goosebumps when you're at the other side of the room. A radiator takes its air from cold floor, which is why you'll often hear the complaint of cold feet. And since warm air rises, it's hot near the ceiling. Are you prone to allergies? Then radiator heating is not your best choice. The air circulation makes allergies, like dust, much worse. Additionally, radiators make the air too dry. But all these issues become a thing of the past with underfloor heating.

      Appearances matter

Even though designer radiators can be quite pretty, they always take up space. Where the radiator is positioned, there's no place for anything else. By contrast, underfloor heating keeps your floor free, providing you more options when decorating your room.

      Hassle-free

Remember those days of rattling and gurgling? The radiators that grunted and mumbled when they needed to be vented or refilled? That’s right, nobody's favorite job. Yet, you had to do it a couple times a year. A thing of the past with underfloor heating! That’s because the system is installed under the floor surface, which also makes it way less vulnerable. The only minor downside is in the rare event of a defect, the repair is slightly more difficult. Key words: rare event.

      Cooling

Have you ever seen a radiator that can cool the room? No, we haven't either. Underfloor heating that both cools and warms – now that’s a feat! Modern underfloor heating systems not only make radiators obsolete, but airconditiong units and vents as well. These two-in-one H&C solutions are now being used most often in hotels and office buildings.

And now new housing projects are also being equipped with these smart systems – providing comfortable temperatures throughout the year. Cozy and warm in the winter; pleasantly cool in the summer.

So, is the end of the radiator really in sight? I don't want to put it that strongly. There are still a number of specific scenarios where the radiator makes more sense than underfloor heating:

      - If floor space is limited

      - If the space doesn't need to be heated continuously (i.e. bedroom, bathroom or office)

      - With alterations and renovations in buildings where radiators are the starting point

      - If the floor doesn't allow ample height for floor heating

      - If planning is not your thing

Hep2O Low-Build Max provides perfect home heating solution

Posted by goldenrabbit on Nov 29, 2016 3:07:00 PM
      • Tweet

For a domestic refurbishment project an alternative, cost effective heating solution to radiators was required. As this was a residential property an easy and quick to install system was essential in order to have as little disruption to the house as possible.

      The challenge

The area to be heated included a large, open plan kitchen as well as a utility room and entrance hallway. Radiators had previously been used to heat this space, but had failed to provide even heat and were considered unfit for purpose.

      Our approach

Underfloor heating was considered the best heating solution, as it provided a cost effective way of heating the space evenly at once, with one system, operating independently from other rooms in the house. Hep2O Low-Build Max was specified, and 250m of 10mm Hep2O pipes were used over five 50m circuits on this project. Due to the large size of the panels (1200mm x 600mm x 15mm), and the flexible pipe and simple push fit fittings that make up the Hep2O system, installing the Low-Build Max system in this large area was completed in under two days, including laying all panels and pipe, installing the five-port manifold and setting up the programmable thermostat.

      The benefits

Hep2O Low-Build Max was the chosen solution as the system has minimal impact on the height of the floor, allowing for a speedy installation due to minimal disruption to the current structure of the house. Being able to tile straight on top of the panels was a great bonus too as this ensured the overall build height was kept to an absolute minimum, ensuring the system was compatible with existing fixtures and fittings. The panels could be walked on in a matter of minutes, meaning the completion of this project could be carried out in the minimum amount of time.

      About Low-Build Max

The Hep2O Low-Build Max system gives installers a quick and easy-to-fit heating alternative to radiators, particularly on renovation projects. The Low-Build Max panels have been specially designed to keep overall floor height to an absolute minimum. At just 15mm deep and featuring pre-routed channels for easy pipe placement, the system allows UFH to be installed quickly on all refurbishment projects – from kitchen re-fits to new spaces created by knocking walls through – without the need for existing flooring levels to be lowered. Low-Build Max is equally applicable for new build jobs and extensions. The panels are of a large enough size – 1,200mm x 600mm – to allow installers to cover large areas at speed without being too bulky to handle. As the panels can be neatly trimmed using a hand saw and secured using adhesive, installation is simple and can be carried out by just one person if necessary.

Tiling on top of the new underfloor heating system was able to begin the next day. The result is a striking new space, with an even distribution of heat that has transformed a cold and unwelcoming kitchen into the heart of the home.

Wavin AS - the solution for “Salt Air Environment” for the Manila Bay Resort Project/ Okada Manila

Posted by goldenrabbit on Oct 11, 2016 9:36:00 AM
      • Tweet

The Okada Manila Project owners and design consultants unanimously chose Wavin AS to address the demands of the high salt air environment, as well as their building wastewater system requirements.

The Okada Manila Project is landmark premium hotel and casino project located right alongside the Manila Bay area.  Because of its location, anything metallic object installed may suffer extreme acceleration of corrosion and subsequent failure, due specifically to salt air environment.  The use of cast iron for its waste water piping system is certainly not an option for the design consultants.

The Okada Manila Project owners and design consultants unanimously chose Wavin AS to address the demands of the high salt air environment, as well as their building wastewater system requirements.   Unlike cast iron, Wavin AS is resistant to salt air environment and very ideal for this kind of application.  The system is very easy to install because of its push fit jointing system.  And to top it all, Wavin AS is the best in class plastic sound-insulation soil and waste piping system.

Storm water management system for stadium uses Wavin QuickStream

Posted by goldenrabbit on Oct 11, 2016 9:33:00 AM
      • Tweet

Beijing Urban Construction Engineering Company chose Wavin to supply them with the QuickStream Roof Siphonic Drainage System for the construction of the Guangzhou International Sports Arena in China due to Wavin’s prior experience with international stadiums in Frankfurt & Berlin. More importantly, it was selected for its excellent design and reliability - demonstrated by exemplary standards for withstanding extreme rainfall while continuing to offer a high degree of drainage efficiency and effectiveness.

Beijing Urban Construction Engineering Company was tasked with the development of the Guangzhou International Sports Arena that was meant to serve the Guangzhou and Pearl River Delta area. The third arena in China, it is designed and constructed according to NBA standards and this comprehensive 65,000m2 18,000-capacity stadium was built to cater for various sports and performing arts functions. Due to its importance, they needed a large, professional and reliable partner and Wavin fit the bill perfectly. The Guangzhou area is notorious for its extreme rainfall and in 2010, some areas saw rainfall intensity levels that are seen once every 300 years while others saw even more extreme rainfall levels seen only once every 500 years – both frequencies and intensities that are beyond imagination! This posed a major challenge when developing the Guangzhou International Sports Arena. Wavin was selected due to its abundant experiences in design, having worked on key international projects such as the Frankfurt Stadium and the Berlin Stadium and due to its expertise in storm water management systems for large industrial and commercial projects. Wavin’s Quickstream Roof Siphonic Drainage System is a key part of its storm water management systems, helping to drain away rainwater quickly and efficiently with its negative pressure system. In fact, it passes tests for managing severe and exceptional rainstorms – allowing the Beijing Urban Construction Engineering Company to continue with construction on a normal schedule through intense rain.

The 18,000m2 roof area of Guangzhou International Sports Arena is designed to handle rain intensity levels up to those seen once every 100 years. In 2010 however, it experienced rainfall 3x beyond its design limit – rainfall intensity seen only once every 300 years! Even in such an extreme situation, the siphonic roof drainage system offered a high degree of discharging water efficiently and effectively.

In my opinion, such outstanding performance is the result of the excellent design of the systems and the reliable quality of the products. In addition, Wavin delivers us good services with care. Throughout the whole process of design, installation, inspection and maintenance of the systems, Wavin offered us professional guidance and technical support. Wavin cares about how the systems run and always gives us immediate feedback to our request. We appreciated this greatly and hope to work with Wavin again.

What are the Advantages of Siphonic Roof Drainage System?

Posted by virtualssuser on Oct 4, 2016 9:13:00 AM
      • Tweet

      04 October 2016

A syphonic roof drainage system reigns supreme over other drainage systems. It discharges the rainwater from rooftops more quickly and efficiently, takes up less space, and reduce installation costs. Read on to know more about the things that set it apart from the conventional ones.

Europe, and indeed the rest of the world, is experiencing record heavy rainfalls. And the frequency with which they are occurring has also increased exponentially. This poses many challenges to building and home owners, not the least of which is safe roof drainage. Traditional gravity drainage is fast-becoming a thing of the past. Today, many large industrial, commercial and retail buildings use siphonic drainage to quickly and efficiently discharge the rainwater from their rooftops. And residential buildings are beginning to follow suit.
      Wavin Quickstream siphonic drainage system
      Wavin Quickstream siphonic drainage system
Always forward-thinking, Wavin wanted to come up with a unique roof drainage solution that would amplify all the benefits and advantages of siphonic roof drainage. And it did. It’s called Wavin QuickStream.

      Gravity drainage vs. Siphonic drainage

Conventional (gravity-fed) roof drainage systems rely on gravity and water’s ability to spread out and flow to the lowest point – channeling from the roof down through the gutter, outlets and downpipes to the ground below. As water enters the downpipe, air is also drawn in and this significantly reduces the drainage capacity, making it less efficient. Additionally, gutters tend to get clogged with leaves and other debris. Blocked pipes and gutters cause the water to pond on the roof, which then may cause damage to the roof, at the very least. By contrast, a fully-engineered siphonic roof drainage system contains an anti-vortex plate that acts as a baffle and prevents air (and debris) from entering the piping system at full flow, allowing the pipes to completely fill up with water. The water is sucked or siphoned from the roof down into the drain at high velocity. The lack of air and the downward pull of the water creates a vacuum, making the drainage process fast and efficient.

The advantages of a Wavin QuickStream siphonic roof drainage system

      • Fewer roof outlets and downpipes, smaller pipe diameter, shorter pipe lengths takes up less space and reduces installation costs
      • Pipes run level and full, without air; higher flow rates increases efficiency
