Ignoring the lessons of history after SARS adds more risk of Covid-19 spread
On Thursday, 4 June, residents in a public housing complex Hong Kong were evacuated following a cluster of Covid-19 over several floors. In March 2003, a high-rise building complex, Amoy Gardens in Hong Kong, became one of the epicenters of a new Coronavirus. The complex ranged from 33 to 41 stories, with some 19,000 people. 329 occupants contracted the disease, 42 died. As part of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Investigation, wastewater plumbing systems were discovered to be a major cause for the rapid of the virus throughout the building.

Wavin SiTech+ Guarantees Noiseless Nights in Hotel
This will be the fourth property of Melia group in Vietnam after Hanoi, Danang and Phu Quoc island. As an established leader of hospitality and hotel services, they needed a low-noise waste water management system that can offer their guests a peaceful and quiet night’s sleep.
Wavin Sitech+ was the chosen solution for an efficient, low noise wastewater management system. Wavin's groundbreaking wastewater system makes use of mineral reinforced polypropylene (PP) pipe material that improves two things: efficiency, durability and noise reduction
Noise is a common problem among piping systems. Wavin's SiTech+ provided Melia Hotels International's Ho Tram Hotel contractors with acoustic-imaging tools that help to measure the amount of noise the pipes would make. This helps them to accurately install Wavin SiTech+ with the least noise possible.
Its entire wastewater discharge system uses Wavin Sitech+ and is installed in all its 156 rooms with its collection point at the basement level. Wavin SiTech+ guarantees efficient and noiseless wastewater management. The thick, ribbed pipe material handles high and turbulent amounts of sewage with minimal vibration thanks to its density. This eases the noise of running water so that guests can enjoy a more comfortable and peaceful sleep at night.
Wavin SiTech+ mineral reinforced polypropylene (PP) material is also much faster and easier to install and handle on side than PVC material. With minimal extra equipment needed to install the water system, Melia's construction contractors improved the water system's construction at a significant rate.

Wavin SiTech+ Guarantees Noiseless Nights In Melia's
On 11th July 2018, Smartpipe (SPT) completed their pilot testing of Wavin Compact Pipe in Malaysia. More than 30 managers and engineers from Air Selangor, a water authority, witnessed how easy it was to use Wavin pipes in pulling a d250mm pipe for 210 metres to rehabilitate an existing and aging DN250 AC water main pipe in the city area. Once the restoration was completed, a steaming process commenced successfully.
The success of Wavin Compact Pipe’s pilot testing has prompted another demonstration in Penang, Malaysia that will happen in September – October 2018. Over 15 water companies and related authorities will be invited to participate in this upcoming event.

Wavin is known for thinking outside of the box. Typically Wavin’s Tegra manholes are used for waste-water transport. But when the seismic measuring station on the small island of Hopen (in Norway) needed to be renewed, the seismological equipment had to be protected from all weather conditions. After testing many possibilities, the Wavin Tegra 1000 became the chosen solution both for housing this specialized equipment and for keeping it safe and dry.
The valuable measuring instruments had been lying inside a metal box. Winter weather found a way into the box and done considerable damage. A solution was needed to protect this expensive equipment. And that’s where the Wavin Tegra 1000 came in handy.
In search of a solution to protect the valuable earthquake detection unit
"In recent years, we used concrete baskets to house equipment like this," explains chief engineer Ole Meyer at the Department of Geoscience at the University of Bergen.“But these are very heavy. Just the bottom section can weigh 4 tons. So you need a 16-ton excavator to handle them. But Hopen has no wharf. All equipment must be landed with small boats from the Coast Guard. Therefore, of course, there is weight limitation on the equipment you can bring with you.”
A manhole is not just for waste water transport... it's so much more
"This was a long process where we considered many different solutions," explains Meyer."At the beginning, we knew very little about what Wavin could deliver. But then we heard about the Tegra manholes and that Wavin has a department that takes care of special orders. Then we said to each other: ‘Wow, this is the thing for us.’”
"When we receive such inquiries, I will immediately sit down and make a drawing with suggestions for solutions," says Modolv Ranheim. He is the head of the department for handmade special solutions at Wavin Norway.“Sometimes I get it right away; in other cases, we have to discuss it a bit back and forth. But we never start production before the customer has approved the drawing. Therefore, we never get complaints, either. In this case, we came up with a cone-shaped Tegra drum, with the diameter at the top 600 mm and 1000 mm further down," says Modolv.

Tree roots growing inside sewer pipes are not an uncommon problem. They thrive on oxygen, so they will not grow in pipes that are filled with water. Rather, they will propagate in a warm, moist and nutrient-rich environment. The subsequent sewer damage can be quite staggering, not to mention costly. Wavin examines the causes and effects of tree root growth in sewage systems, and what we can do to prevent damage in our underground infrastructure.

Wavin Tigris K1 Speeds Up Singapore's Watercove Seafront Village
In the first quarter of 2017, development work started for Singapore’s Watercove project, one of Singapore’s newest seafront living village. This major project was to be finished by 2018 and its contractors needed to find a solution that would help speed up development to meet its tight deadlines in the face of labour shortage.
Wavin’s Tigris K1 was the chosen solution as its press-fit technology allowed contractors to install the entire potable and heated water system 40% faster by doing away with welding joints and fusion in exchange for secure and reliable joint crimping even for huge pipe sizes such as 63mm and 75mm pipes.
The project is currently underway and plumbing work is slated to finish before 2018. The Tigris K1 system is proving a powerful and efficient tool thus far in this project. The multi-layer piping system for potable and heating water systems has given the contractors enough variety to use for the different waterways into the properties. With multiple sizes ranging from 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, and 50mm, contractors could maximize their system's flow using the best fit.
It is made from high-quality polyphenyl sulphone and stainless steel sleeves for multi-connection joints and couplers, making it a durable and corrosion-resistant compared to copper & PPR piping.
Installation was made quick and easy as contractors only needed to simply cut the pipe, de-burr the edges for a smooth finish and slide in the fitting, using the hexagonal ring as a guide for a minimum-effort installation.
The entire piping system does not require any heating element to fuse the joints and connections together. It does away with welding equipment and maintains the working area's temperature, effectively reducing the risk of employee hazards.
Tigris K1's efficient technology has greatly helped accelerate the development of the Watercove project and increased productivity to meet its tight deadline.
